In 2005 Norfolk was looking a bit scruffy in some areas and I was dismayed that the Government was not keeping our beauty viewpoints up to scratch and at the standard of a tourist destination. I ended up doing a private review of all the areas and writing a report which I published in the local paper whilst urging the Government to take action to rectify things.
This article prompted a call to me from many people but in particular Warren Langman who suggested that maybe it was time that we started an environment group to be able to take some action on these sorts of matters. He suggested recreating Landcare; which had been a group on the Island in years past but had closed down.
We collected some like minded people and Norfolk Landcare Group was formed. We decided early on that our primary work area would be Cockpit in the Cascade Reserve but that we would make ourselves available to assist in other environment projects.
This is Cockpit before we took it on... what a world of difference today
